Happy (almost) May! I hope that everyone is having a great weekend! What a busy week we had last week in Room 118! The children did such a fabulous job jumping right back into our school routines after vacation! I look forward to another exciting week in second grade! 😃
In literacy we have been discussing the unit question, "What does it mean to be responsible?" This week we thought about how we can be responsible family members at home! The video below shares our thoughts!
Literacy
This week in literacy we will be reading the story, Horace and Morris but mostly Dolores by James Howe. Through reading this story we will continue to discuss the unit question, “What does it mean to be responsible?” We will also discuss the weekly question, “What do good friends and neighbors do?” This week we will also be reviewing the genre of Fantasy, learning about the sounds of ph and gh, applying the comprehension strategy of asking questions while reading and exploring the comprehension skill of author’s purpose.
Spelling City Link
Students can practice their weekly spelling words through the Spelling City website by clicking here.
Experimenting with Whisper Phones during Daily 5!
Practicing vocabulary with a fun game called Password! Ask your child to tell you more about this class favorite!
This week in grammar we learned all about when to use "I" and when to use "me" when writing! To practice this skill we participated in a "carousel" activity where students used smelly stickers to show their thinking! Ask your child when you are supposed to use "I" and when you are supposed to use "me" when writing to see what they learned!
We really enjoyed the Listen to Reading book this week! 😃
In math we continue to explore geometry concepts!
Getting ready for our Social Studies quiz on the oceans and continents!
Tuesday was such a nice day that we had our Star Student lunch outside! 🌞😄👍
