It was wonderful having our Room 114 family back together after a week away on vacation! The children did a great job of jumping right back into the routines and procedures of our classroom! It was a productive week full of learning and fun! π
Geometry fun in math!
Last week in science we learned about stars and daily patterns by answering the question, "Why do the stars come out at night?" Ask your child the answer to this question to see what they learned through our experiment! Hint: The stars are always out, we just can't see them during the day because of the light from the sun! π
In reading last week we learned about the "Scoop Strategy" to help us retell a story! If you read to your child at home or they read to you, ask them to tell you the setting, characters, setting, order of events, problem and solution after reading to help them practice this strategy and to strengthen their reading comprehension skills!
Many students have expressed interest in doing ST Math at home! Please use the following directions to help your child access this resource at home if they are interested! Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or if you have any trouble accessing the site!
1. Go to the Boyden School homepage.
2. Click on the Student Portal.
3. Click on the ST Math icon.
4. Press "Log in with Google".
5. Your child will then be prompted to enter in their school email address and password. They should know both of these. If they are unsure, please don't hesitate to reach out and I can provide them! They should only have to enter this in the first time they log in!
6. Start playing ST Math!
πStar Studentπ
Congratulations to Raegan who was our Star Student last week! We loved learning more about Rae from her All About Me poster and from the beautiful pictures and objects that she brought from home! Keep up the awesome work Raegan! You are such an important and valued member of our Room 114 family! ❤
⭐The Week Ahead ⭐
Monday (Day 3) Music
Tuesday (Day 4) Media/STEM
Wednesday (Day 1) PE
Thursday (Day 2) Art
Friday (Day 3) Music
FUNdations
This week in FUNdations we will continue to focus on vowel team sounds for ai, ay, ee, ea, ey, oi and oy. We will also practice reading with accuracy and prosody and work on spelling and reading the trick words: say, says, see, between and each.
Reader's Workshop π
In Reader's Workshop this week we will continue to learn about effective reading strategies. We will talk about how readers notice when things don't sound right and they go back, reread and fix up any problems. We will also discuss that when readers don't understand what a word in the book that they are reading means, they figure it out so that they can really understand the book and the story.
Writer's Workshop π
We will continue to write reviews this week in Writer's Workshop! This week we will talk about how writers don’t all agree and that’s okay! If one person has written their opinion, someone else might say, “ I agree. My opinion is the same.” or “ I disagree. I have a different opinion” When we don’t agree with someone else’s opinion, that’s a good time to back up our opinion with reasons why we disagree or think differently. We will also talk about how to disagree politely and respectfully!
Math π©
In math we will continue to explore geometry concepts through games and hands on learning opportunities!
