October 18, 2015

Happy Sunday! I hope that everyone is having a great weekend! We have another busy week ahead in Room 118 with a Docent presentation from Mrs. Baumgardner on Monday and our field trip to Decordova Sculpture Park on Friday! I can't wait for another spectacular week in second grade! :)

Parent/Teacher Conferences
It's hard to believe that next week begins parent/teacher conferences! The online conference scheduler opened last week and will active until October 23rd. If you are unable to make any of the time slots still available, please contact me as soon as possible! I'd be more than happy to meet during a time that is convenient for you! I look forward to conferencing with you soon! :)

Scholastic Book Orders!
Thank you so much for all of your Scholastic book orders! All order forms and payment are due tomorrow! I will be placing the order tomorrow afternoon! Our books should be on their way soon!

Literacy
This week we will be reading the story, The Strongest One. This is the last story in our first unit of study! We will finish discussing the unit question, “What can we learn from exploring new places and things?” We will also review the phonics skill of consonant digraphs!

Be a Star...Read!
The students in Room 118 continued to do fantastic reading last week as part of our school wide reading incentive, Be a Star...Read! This upcoming week marks our third week of the contest! Our goal is to have 100% participation and for all reading logs to come back to school on Friday! Keep up the great work!

Math
This week we will continue to review subtraction strategies as presented in our third topic of study! Children will practice how to think addition to 10 and 18 to subtract, how to make a 10 to subtract and how to answer two-question problems. The children did a fantastic job practicing their 5's facts last week! This week we will practice our 6 facts!

Star Student
Congratulations to Veronica who was our "Star Student" last week! It was wonderful to learn more about Veronica through her All About Me poster! We loved seeing the pictures and artwork that she brought from home! Keep up the great work Veronica! :)

Congratulations to Sean who lost his very first tooth on Thursday! Never a dull moment in Room 118! Congrats Sean! :)
