This week we finished our unit on Butterflies and said goodbye to our fluttering friends who we released into the wild!
Homework
While we will continue to have spelling homework for a few more weeks, this week will be the final week that an official homework packet will be coming home with your child! Please let me know if you have any questions!
Our Class Play!
I have been so impressed with the hard work that so many students have been applying to our class play! This Tuesday we will be presenting in the school-wide assembly! While families are unfortunately not able to attend our assembly performance due to a lack of space in the cafetorium, we will be having a very special “Framily” (Friends and Family) performance on Thursday, May 26th at 8:50AM in the cafetorium! We hope to see you then!
Field Trip
If your child has not yet returned their permission slip for our field trip please do so ASAP to ensure that your child will be able to participate! If you have any concerns about the cost of the trip please do not hesitate to contact me! I will be contacting those who volunteered to chaperone this week!
On Thursday we had a visit from the Discovery Museum and participated in the "Digging for Dinosaurs" program! We had a BLAST!
Field Day!
This year Field Day is scheduled for Friday, June 3rd! Instead of wearing blue, orange and gray, this year each classroom will represent a different country in honor of the upcoming Olympic Games! Room 118 will be representing Poland! The Polish flag colors are red and white! Our class is invited to show their spirit by wearing these colors!
T-Shirt Book Report!
We will be completing a T-shirt book report in school! If possible, children are asked to bring in a plain, white or light colored t-shirt that they can decorate for this very special project! We will be decorating on Friday, June 10th so if children could bring in their shirts before then that would be fantastic! We are also looking for donations of Sharpies or fabric markers that we could use for this activity! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions! Thank you so much in advance for your help with this exciting project!
Math
In math this week we will continue to learn about measurement by exploring the standard units of inches, centimeters, feet, yards and meters!
Literacy
This week in Literacy we will be reading the story, Red, White and Blue by John Herman. Through reading this story we will continue to discuss the unit question, “How are traditions and celebrations important to our lives?” We will also discuss the weekly question, “What does our flag mean?” This week we will also be reviewing the genre of Narrative Nonfiction and the phonics skill of inflected endings, applying strategies to aide in our comprehension of a text and determining the difference between facts and opinions. We will have a spelling test on Friday! Please do not forget to practice!
Mystery Mathematician!
Thank you so much to Mrs. Falzone who visited our classroom on Friday and helped us review money concepts with a very fun interactive story activity! We had so much fun! Thank you Mrs. Falzone! :)
