We had so much fun on Friday celebrating our fantastic behavior and wonderful choices with a Pajama, Stuffed Animal, Movie Day! What a fabulous way to end a busy week! I am so proud of each and every child for continuing to put forth their best effort! Keep up the amazing job! :)
Shhhhhhh!!!!! It’s a Surprise
If possible, please help your child choose a shirt to send in for a project we will be working on for Open House! Long sleeved shirts work best! All shirts will be returned unharmed after Open House is over! Thanks for your help!

Open House 2016!
This Thursday is Boyden School’s annual Open House Night! All friends and family are welcome to attend! I look forward to meeting all that can make it then!
Media
On Thursday we took our very first trip of the school year to the Media Center! We loved listening to Mrs. Fucille read to us and were so excited to take out library books! Second graders are allowed to take out two library books as long as they are returned each week by Thursday! Happy Reading! :)
We enjoyed our first classroom visit from Mr. Leary this week!
Literacy
This week in Literacy we will be reading the story, Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night by Cynthia Rylant. Through reading this story we will be discussing the genre of realistic fiction, practicing reading words with consonant blends, identifying the characters and setting of a text and applying the comprehension strategy of monitoring our understandings while reading. We will also continue to discuss our unit question, “What can we learn from exploring new places and things?” as well as our weekly question, “What can we discover by exploring nature?”
Math
In math this week we will continue to review addition strategies and will also continue the math fact component of our math curriculum! Students have been completing various activities and playing games to practice their math facts in families! This week we will continue to practice the 5's family!
This week we are also going to start our Guided Math centers! Guided Math is an approach that provides all instruction in small groups. When students are not working with a teacher to learn new skills or concepts, they are participating in math games that will build their fact fluency, completing projects that target key math concepts and using the computer to practice skills learned in class! Guided Math is such a fun part of our day and allows me the opportunity to support and challenge students at their individual level. I am so excited to start Guided Math this week and hope that your child will enjoy it as much as I do!
Daily 5
Daily 5 is in full swing in Room 118! This week we continued to build our reading and writing stamina! We also learned about a new aspect of Daily 5 called, "Read to Someone". I am blown away by the amazing work that the children are doing during this time! Ask your child how they are feeling about Daily 5 and what their favorite activity is so far!
Read to Someone
Work on Writing
Shown here are 2 Daily 5 tools! "Mr. Check In" helps students check for their understanding while reading to ensure that they are building reading comprehension! The "I Pick" bookmark reminds students how to pick a just right book that they will enjoy reading and that will help them build their reading stamina!
