January 15, 2017

I hope that everyone is enjoying a wonderful long weekend! It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through the month of January! I couldn’t be more proud of the effort and hard work each student continues to put forth every day in our classroom! I look forward to another week of learning fun in Room 118!

Go Pats!

Literacy
In Literacy this week we will read the story, Rosa and Blanca by Joe Hayes. We will continue to discuss the unit question, “What does it mean to be creative?” and will discuss the weekly question, “When can creative ideas solve problems?” We will also review the genre of Realistic Fiction, learn about long i (i, ie, igh, y), apply the comprehension skill of theme and plot and discuss the comprehension strategy of prediction.

We had so much fun celebrating on Thursday with a PJ Day!

Math
This week we will begin topic 9 which focuses on two-digit subtraction. We will begin this unit by practicing how to regroup 1 ten for 10 ones and using models to subtraction two and one digit numbers.

Social Studies
Last week in Social Studies we began to talk about the very important life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. We watched a BrainPOP video on Dr. King and even viewed a portion of his, "I Have a Dream Speech". This week we will continue to learn more about Martin Luther King Jr. through read alouds and discussions!

Star Student
Congratulations to Michael who was our Star Student last week! We loved learning more about Michael from his All About Me poster and from the pictures that he brought from home! Keep up the amazing work Michael! :)
