February 25, 2017

I hope everyone enjoyed a safe and relaxing February Vacation! It’s hard to believe March is almost here! I look forward to another month of learning fun in Room 118!

Our "Thought of the Week" from before vacation!

A very special thank you to Madeline who made us a gorgeous, inspirational poster for our classroom! We can't wait to use her beautiful words as our "Thought of the Week" this week! Thank you for all of your effort Madeline and for going above and beyond! :)

Valentine's Day fun in Room 118!

Math
This week in  math we will begin Topic 11 which focuses on three-digit addition and subtraction! This week we will be exploring different strategies to add three-digit numbers such as mental math, using models and applying the partial sums strategy.

Jump-a-Thon
Congratulations to Isabelle and Maeve who were our class representatives in the Jump-a-Thon! Both gave 100% effort and did a fantastic job! Great work Isabelle and Maeve! Room 118 is so proud of you!

Cheering on the jumpers during Boyden's annual Jump-a-Thon!

Literacy
This week in Literacy we will be reading the text, Frogs by Gail Gibbons. Through reading this piece we will continue to address the unit questions, “How do things change? How do they stay the same?” We will discuss the weekly question, “How do animals change as they grow?” This week we will also review the genre of Expository Nonfiction, practice reading and spelling words with diphthongs ow and ou, apply the comprehension skill of compare and contrast and learn more about word structure and graphic organizers.

Star Student!
Congratulations to Addie who was our Star Student before vacation! We loved learning more about Addie from her All About Me poster and from the pictures that she brought from home! Keep up the amazing work Addie! :)
