February 11, 2017

I hope that everyone enjoys a safe and relaxing February Vacation! Thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support! Room 118 is truly a special place to teach, learn and grow! :)

We had so much fun celebrating the 100th day of school on Monday!

Valentine’s Day!
Room 118 will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Tuesday! If students choose to hand out Valentines please make sure they have one for each classmate. We don’t want any broken hearts! Also, it is school policy that food/candy is not exchanged at any time, so unfortunately any Valentine’s candy brought to school will not be able to be given out. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you need another copy of the Valentine's Day letter and class list that I sent home a few weeks ago! Happy Valentine’s Day!

Math
This week in math we will continue to explore concepts centered around place value to 1,000. We will be adding and subtracting multiples of 10 or 100 to and from a three-digit number without regrouping, finding, identifying and applying number patterns to numbers on a hundred chart, skip counting by 5. 10, 100 to 1,000 and comparing three-digit numbers using the symbols <, = and >.

Thank you so much to Mrs. Collins who presented our second Docent lesson this week! We learned SO much and loved playing Art Bingo! Thank you Mrs. Collins!

Literacy
This week in Literacy we will be reading the text, Life Cycle of a Pumpkin by Ron Fridell and Patricia Walsh. Through reading this story we will continue to discuss the unit questions, “How do things change? How do they stay the same?” We will also discuss the weekly question, “How do plants change as they grow?” This week we will also review the genre of Expository Nonfiction, learn about the vowels oo, u, apply the vocabulary strategy of context clues, integrate the comprehension skill of fact and opinion and apply the comprehension strategy of asking questions while reading.

Our "Thought of the Week"!
