Valentine’s Day!
It’s hard to believe that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! If students choose to hand out Valentines please make sure they have one for each classmate. We don’t want any broken hearts! Also, it is school policy that food/candy is not exchanged at any time, so unfortunately any Valentine’s candy brought to school will not be able to be given out. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you need another copy of the Valentine's Day letter and class list that I sent home a few weeks ago! Happy Valentine’s Day!
100th Day
The 100th day of school is tomorrow Monday, February 6th! To commemorate this special day, students are invited to dress up like they are 100 years old! Please do not but a costume, but instead find items at home! Thanks for helping us celebrate the 100th day!
We continue to talk about Growth Mindset in Room 118!
Timelines
This week we are hoping to use the timeline organizers that the children completed at home to make our very own timelines on the computer! If your child has not returned this project please have them do so ASAP so that they can participate! Thanks so much!

Social Studies
Last week in Social Studies we continued to learn about the 7 continents and 5 major oceans of the world! We started to identify all of the continents and oceans on a world map and learned about a river and mountain range on each land form! This week we will wrap up our unit on continents and oceans and review all that we have learned!
Math
In math we will begin our tenth unit of study which focuses on place value to 1,000! This week we will count by hundreds to 1,000, use place value models to show numbers up to 1,000, read and write numbers to 1,000 and change numbers by hundreds and tens!
Computer Lab
This week in computer lab, students started to make their very own PowerPoint presentations based on a topic of their choice! We will continue to work on our presentations this week and then share them with the class next week! Ask your child what topic their PowerPoint presentation explores!
Literacy
In literacy we will be starting our fourth unit of stories! This week we will be reading, The Quilt Story by Tony Johnson and Tomie dePaola. We will begin to discuss the unit questions, “How do things change? How do they stay the same?” We will also discuss our weekly question, “How can familiar things help us with changes?” This week we will also be reviewing the genre of realistic fiction, reading and spelling words with syllables C + le, applying the vocabulary strategy of word structure, reviewing the comprehension skill of cause and effect and identifying story structure.
