This week a, "Thought of the Week" was included in our daily morning message! Ask your child about our weekly idea and what it means to them!
Valentine’s Day!
It’s hard to believe that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! If students choose to hand out Valentines please make sure they have one for each classmate. We don’t want any broken hearts! Also, it is school policy that food/candy is not exchanged at any time, so unfortunately any Valentine’s candy brought to school will not be able to be given out. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you need another copy of the Valentine's Day letter and class list that I sent home a few weeks ago! Happy Valentine’s Day!
100th Day
Barring any snow days, the 100th day of school will be this Friday! To commemorate this special day, students are invited to dress up like they are 100 years old! Please do not but a costume, but instead find items at home! A few ideas that may help your child dress the part include: hair curlers, glasses, shawl, robe, bow tie, beard/mustache (can be made out of paper), or use your imagination! Thanks for helping us celebrate the 100th day!
Using new word work activities in Daily 5! Ask your child which activity they like best!
Timelines
This week we will use the timeline organizers that the children completed at home to make our very own timelines on the computer! If your child has not returned this project please have them do so ASAP so that they can participate! Thanks so much!
Practicing our new "Globe Greeting" during morning meeting!
Social Studies
This week we talked about where we live as an introduction to our Social Studies unit on the 7 continents! Ask your child to tell you what planet, continent, country, state and town we live in!
Math
The students have been working SO hard in math to apply the Partial Differences strategy to solve two-digit subtraction problems with and without regrouping! This can be a tricky math skill so we will continue to practice and apply this strategy this week! Thank you SO much for all of your help and support in encouraging your child to use the Partial Differences approach! I know it can seem a little confusing at first but I can already see an incredible difference in the students' conceptual understanding of subtraction with the use of this strategy! Thank you so much!
Sharing our mental computation strategies during our math number talk!
Literacy
This week in literacy we will not be starting a new story but will be reviewing the concepts and skills presenting in our third unit. Since we will be taking this week to review, we will not be taking a spelling test on Friday! Next week, we will begin our fourth unit of stories and pick back up with our spelling tests! Please let me know if you have any questions!
Star Student!
Congratulations to Eli who was our Star Student last week! We loved learning more about Eli from his All About Me poster and from the pictures that he brought from home! Keep up the amazing work Eli! :)
