Practicing Our Play!
Our Class Play Family/Friends Performance
For those who are able to attend, our class will be hosting a very special "Friends and Family" performance of our class play, "The Day the Crayons Quit" this Thursday, April 13th from 9:15AM-9:30AM in the Boyden School cafeteria! We hope to see you then!
Class Store
The children continue to work SO hard to make wonderful choices and to earn their daily pennies! I'm hoping to reward all of their hard work and effort with a class store right after vacation! Any donations of small trinkets or toys would be so greatly appreciated! They don't need to be new! Thank you so much for considering! :)
Field Trip
Just a friendly reminder that field trip permission slips for our Patriot Place movie field trip are due this Thursday, April 13th. Please have your child return their permission slip no later than Thursday to ensure that they will be able to participate! If you have any concerns about the cost of the trip please do not hesitate to contact me! Thank you!
Biography Reports & Homework
On Friday, your child came home with information about our biography reports! The children have been so excited and enthusiastic about this very special project! This assignment uses many of the same resources that students used in the classroom to complete their first biography projects but allows students to pick a person from history that they would like to research! Most students were able to find a book in school to use for this project but a few children were interested in people we did not have books for. Those students are more than welcome to complete their research using the computer or other outside resources! If your child selected a person that we do not have a book for and you would like them to pick a person we do have books for please let me know! Please do not hesitate to contact me if your child is having a difficult time completing this assignment or if you have any questions! Thank you so much for your continued support and assistance! I can’t wait to see the final products on May 1st!
Math
This week in math we will continue to explore the concepts presented in Topic 14 of our math curriculum! We will practice adding money, subtracting money and estimating sums and differences!
Literacy
This week in Literacy we will be reading the story, Bad Dog Dodger by Barbara Abercrombie. Through reading this story we will continue to discuss the unit question, “What does it mean to be responsible?” and will also explore the weekly question, “How can we be responsible family members?” This week we will also be reviewing the genre of Realistic Fiction, reading and writing words with silent consonants, applying the reading strategies of word structure and prior knowledge and identifying the plot and theme of a text.
Last week we finished our firefighter projects which include writing that describes the very dangerous job of a firefighter. After reading this piece we discussed as a class the importance of having a family fire plan at home. This might be a great time to review your family's fire plan with your child! As our text said, "Planning now can save lives later!"
Star Student!
Congratulations to Dylan who was our Star Student this week! We loved learning more about him from his All About Me poster! Keep up the amazing work Dylan! :)
