What a busy week in was in Room 118! We had a wonderful visit from the Discovery Museum, started practicing our play, attended the 4th grade State Fair and ended our week with a PJ/Movie Day! I look forward to another very exciting week in second grade!

Literacy
This week in Literacy we will be reading the story, One Dark Night by Hazel Hutchins. Through reading this story we will continue to answer the unit question, “What does it mean to be responsible?” We will also address the weekly question, “Why should we take care of animals?” This week in literacy we will also be reviewing the genre of Realistic Fiction, reading words with prefixes un-, re-, pre- and dis-, applying the comprehension strategy of context clues, sequencing the events of a story and using graphic organizers to organize our ideas while reading and writing.

Math
In math this week we will continue to explore the concepts presented in topic 13, Counting Money! We will explore different ways to show the same amount, learn more about the dollar bill and make an organized list to solve money word problems! We will then begin topic 14 which focuses more on money! We will practice adding money, subtracting money and estimating sums and differences!

Star Student!
Congratulations to Jack who was our Star Student this week! We loved learning more about Jack from his All About Me poster and from the pictures that he brought from home! Keep up the amazing work Jack! :)
