Literacy/Spelling
Due to such a short and crazy week last week, we will continue to explore the concepts and skills presented with the weekly story, Helen Keller and the Big Storm this week. We will take our spelling test for the spelling words that align to this story on this Friday, March 23rd! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions!
This week Room 118 joined the Global March Book Madness competition! π We filled out our brackets, voted in the second round of the tournament and made predictions on which picture book we think is going to take it all! Ask your child about this fun project and what book they want to win! For more information, click here!
In math workshop this week, we participated in the St. Patrick's Day project! Ask your child about this activity and what they had to do to complete it! For more information, check out the project website by clicking here! (Rest assured, no student consumed any Lucky Charms while completing this activity! ππ)
Spelling
The children have been doing such a fabulous job practicing their spelling words both in school and at home! Is your child looking for a new, fun way to do this? There are many activities I can send home with your child that would provide them with an engaging way to practice our weekly spelling words! The website, Spelling City is also a great resource! Click here to play the free Spelling City games and activities with this weeks words! Please let me know what I can do or what resources I can provide, to best support your child in this area!
Daily 5 Reading Fun!
Math facts are always one of those most challenging things for many second graders to master. We continue to practice math facts everyday in school with XtraMath and fact fluency games, but practicing at home is also essential for your child to make progress with this skill! If your child has not yet come home with an XtraMath addition certificate of completion, it's time to increase their math fact exposures! Using the math games and flashcards that are sent home is a great way to do this! It is my goal that each child reaches the end of the year benchmark for addition and subtraction fact fluency by the time they leave me in June! Please let me know what tools I can provide for your child at home so that your student reaches this goal! π
On Monday, we played a new game called, Password to practice our weekly vocabulary words! Ask your child about the game and how it it played to learn more!
Creating Place Value Pirates and playing a Place Value Pocket game in math to practice and show all that we know!
