March 11, 2018

It was another busy week in Room 118! The days truly fly by when you are having fun! I look forward to seeing you soon for Parent/Teacher conferences!

Literacy
This week we will finish up our fourth unit of study in our literacy program by reading the story, Helen Keller and the Big Storm by Patricia Lakin. We will conclude our discussion of the unit questions, “How do things change? How do they stay the same?” We will discuss the weekly question, “How do changes in the weather affect us?” In literacy this week we will also review the genre of Narrative Nonfiction, apply vowels oo, ue, ew, and ui to our reading and spelling, practice applying the strategies of context clues and asking questions and discriminating between facts and opinions.

This week we continued to explore the 7 continents by integrating a "Globe Greeting" into our Morning Meeting! Ask your child how to do a Globe Greeting and to name the 7 continents to see all that they have learned!

Practicing our weekly vocabulary words with a fun fishing game!

Math
In math this week we will continue to explore place value concepts as presented in our tenth unit of study! We will also learn more about the 16's fact family and practice our 16's addition and subtraction facts!

This week we learned all about adverbs and went on an adverb scavenger hunt!
