March 4, 2018

It was so wonderful to be back at Boyden and Room 118 this week! I missed your amazing children SO much and am beyond impressed with the incredible progress they have made since I left on Maternity Leave at the end of November! A HUGE thank you to Miss Verbic for doing an outstanding job in my absence! She truly went above and beyond! Boyden School and Room 118 are so very luck to have her! I look forward to another fabulous week in second grade and to continuing our journey together!:)

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
Room 118 had so much fun on Friday celebrating the birthday of the iconic children’s book author Dr. Seuss! Celebrating Dr. Seuss and his great work was such a treat, Friday turned out to be a day that will be hard to beat! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Celebrating Dr. Seuss' Birthday with a "Read in"! The hallways of Boyden School were lined with enthusiastic readers! :)

Literacy
This week in Literacy we will be reading the story, I Like Where I am by Jessica Harper. We will continue to discuss the unit questions, “How do things change? How do they stay the same?” We will also discuss the weekly question, “Why are some changes difficult?” This week in Literacy we will also learn about the genre of Narrative Poem, review diphthongs oi and oy, apply the strategies of context clues and summarizing while reading and discover more about the comprehension skills of determining theme and plot.

This week we learned all about the very important reading skill of comparing and contrasting! To help us, Miss Verbic made these fantastic glasses! Ask your child what comparing and contrasting is to see all that they have learned!

With the help of Mrs. Carroll, we added our final touches to our Timeline projects this week! This children did an outstanding job with this project! I am so very proud of each student for the effort that they put forth!

We had so much fun participating in our Hot Dots math game center this week! Ask your child what Hot Dots are and how they work!

This week Boyden School participated in Pink Shirt Day. Ask your child what this special day was all about and why we were wearing pink!

We had so much fun this week practicing two-digit addition and
subtraction strategies using a carousel format!

What an INCREDIBLE surprise to have a Patriots cheerleader and Stephen Gostkowski, the Placekicker for the Patriots visit Boyden School on Thursday! They did such a wonderful job of reminding us just how important reading is!
