Our Classroom Store 💰
The children have been working SO hard to earn their daily pennies by putting forth their best effort, making great choices and displaying expected behavior! Students will be able to spend the money they've earned at a classroom store coming soon! We are looking for any donations of small games, toys or prizes that we could "sell" at our classroom store. Items don't need to be new! Thank you SO much to those who have already donated!
Planning and drafting our Personal Narratives! Ask your child what experience they are writing about! ✏
The Great Kindness Challenge will begin Monday and run all next week at Boyden. Throughout the week we will be participating in various activities across the school to highlight kindness and to learn more ways to spread kindness!
Literacy 📚
This week in Literacy we will be reading the story, A Weed is a Flower: The Life of George Washington Carver by Aliki. This is the last story in our third unit! This week we will conclude our discussion of the unit question, “What does it mean to be creative?” and will discuss the weekly question, “Where do creative ideas come from?” We will also learn about the genre of Biography, practice reading words with comparative endings, apply the comprehension skill of cause and effect and learn more about the comprehension strategy of monitoring and fixing up our understandings while reading! If your child would like to practice our weekly spelling words by using the Spelling City website, click here!
This week our Technology Specialist, Mrs. Carroll, helped us create presentations about "Where We Live" using Google Maps (look at that Earth!) and Google Slides! We learned so many skills including taking a screenshot! Thank you Mrs. Carroll! 🖥🌏
Math ✏
Last week in math we began Topic 9 which focuses on double digit subtraction! Just like addition, students will learn and practice a relatively new computation strategy that will provide them with a much deeper and clearer understanding of place value and the process of subtraction. In addition this strategy is called Partial Sums and in subtraction this strategy is called Partial Differences. See the picture below to see this strategy in action!
We had some great "teachers" help us review two-digit subtraction this week! 🍎
Participating in our newest Morning Meeting greeting, "Globe Greeting"! 🌍
This week our Math Coach Mrs. Kelly, taught us a fun new game called, Splat! Ask your child how you play this game to see what they learned! ✏
This week we started to learn about having a Growth Mindset through watching videos from an educational site called ClassDojo! Ask your child what Growth Mindset is to see what they have learned so far! 👍
