Happy Groundhog Day! I'm hoping our furry little groundhog friend is right and spring is just around the corner! 💮
🏈 Let's go Patriots!!! 🏈
It’s hard to believe that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! If students choose to hand out Valentines please make sure they have one for each classmate. We don’t want any broken hearts! Also, it is school policy that food/candy is not exchanged at any time, so unfortunately any Valentine’s candy brought to school will not be able to be given out. I will send home a class list this week for students to use if they would like to address their Valentines with each classmates' name! Please let me know if you have any questions!
Our Classroom Store! 💰
I can't thank you enough for all of your incredibly generous donations to our classroom store! I so greatly appreciate your kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity!
Kindness Week 2019 💕
This week we participated in the Great Kindness Challenge! Throughout the week we discussed kindness, read "Be Kind" by Pat Zietlow Miller, made cards for Boyden alum Philip Lipolis who is battling Leukemia and a variety of other activities. Though we highlighted kindness this week, kindness is something that we discuss and will continue to emphasize all year long! Check out the pictures and videos below of a few highlights from this very special week!
On Monday, we watched a video made by the Student Council explaining all about Kindness Week! 🎥
Writing kind messages on sticky notes to spread kindness all over Boyden School!
We read so many books this week with a kindness theme! 📘
Kid President taught us a thing or two about kindness!
A few friends spent their Quiet Time making kindness posters to hang in the hallways!
Singing the "Choose Kind" poster!
Kindness messages can be found all around Room 118!
A summary of Kindness Week from a few Room 118 friends! ❤
In Social Studies we will be learning all about timelines and will be making one of our very own in school! Attached to this weeks reading log, will be a blank timeline organizer. If possible, please help your child to complete six really important events that have happened in his/her life in chronological order. If timeline organizers could be returned to school by Friday that would be fantastic! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions! Thanks for all that you do! 😄
Literacy 📚
In literacy we will be starting our fourth unit of stories! This week we will be reading, The Quilt Story by Tony Johnson and Tomie dePaola. We will begin to discuss the unit questions, “How do things change? How do they stay the same?” We will also discuss our weekly question, “How can familiar things help us with changes?” This week we will also be reviewing the genre of realistic fiction, reading and spelling words with syllables C + le, applying the vocabulary strategy of word structure, reviewing the comprehension skill of cause and effect and identifying story structure. If your child would like to practice our weekly spelling words using the Spelling City website, click here!
Peer editing our personal narratives! Ask your child to give you a few examples of "time words" to see what we learned this week in writing! ✏
Math ✏
The students have been working SO hard in math to apply the Partial Differences strategy to solve two-digit subtraction problems with and without regrouping! This can be a tricky math skill so we will continue to practice and apply this strategy this week! Thank you SO much for all of your help and support in encouraging your child to use the Partial Differences approach! I know it can seem a little confusing at first but I can already see an incredible difference in the students' conceptual understanding of subtraction with the use of this strategy! Thank you so much!
Social Studies 🌍
This week in Social Studies we reviewed everything that we have learned in our unit about where we live! On Friday, your child came home with a letter about the social studies test that we will take on Friday, February 8th! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions!
