January 6, 2019

I hope that everyone is having a great weekend! 2019 is already off to a fabulous start in Room 118! I look forward to another wonderful week ahead! 😃

Sharing what we did over vacation with a carousel activity! 🎠

Literacy
This week we will be reading the story, Anansi Goes Fishing by Eric A. Kimmel. We will continue to discuss the unit question, “What does it mean to be creative?” and will also discuss the weekly questions, “When are creative ideas good? When are they bad?” We will also review the genre of Folk Tale, learn about compound words and apply the comprehension skill of cause and effect. If your child would like to practice our weekly spelling words using the Spelling City website, click here!

Math game fun! 🎲

Showing what we learned about verbs with singular and plural nouns! 👍

Math
This week in math we will continue to learn and practice strategies for adding two, two-digit numbers! The children did a fantastic job last week applying the partial sums strategy that we learned! Ask your child to show you this very helpful method!

We finished our first Writing Celebration this week! ✏

Fishing for conclusions during Daily 5! 🎣

"Turning and Talking" in math! 🗣

On Friday, we started our Social Studies unit on the Continents and Oceans! To begin this unit we discussed the places that we live! Ask your child to tell you the many places that they live to see all that they have learned so far! 🌎
