🍀 Happy St. Patrick's Day from Room 118! 🍀

Leprechaun applications! It's never too early to think about future career options! 😉

Literacy 📚

In Literacy this week we will not be starting a new story as we will be participating in a unit on biographies! Therefore, we will not be learning a new phonics rule this week and will not have a spelling test on Friday. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions that you may have!

Math ✏
This week in math we will continue to practice 3 digit subtraction and will also begin to explore the geometry concepts presented in the 12th unit of our math program!

Mathematicians hard at work! 👍

In math workshop this week, we participated in the St. Patrick's Day project! Ask your child about this activity and what they had to do to complete it! For more information, check out the project website by clicking here! (Rest assured, no student consumed any Lucky Charms while completing this activity! 👍😁)

Math facts are always one of those most challenging things for many second graders to master. We continue to practice math facts everyday in school with XtraMath and fact fluency games, but practicing at home is also essential for your child to make progress with this skill! If your child has not yet come home with an XtraMath addition certificate of completion, it's time to increase their math fact exposures! Using the math games and flashcards that are sent home is a great way to do this! It is my goal that each child reaches the end of the year benchmark for addition and subtraction fact fluency by the time they leave me in June! Please let me know what tools I can provide for your child at home so that your student reaches this goal! 👍

Science 📋
This week in science we began our unit on the properties of matter by participating in an experiment that helped us answer the question, Why do we wear clothes? Ask your child this question to see what they learned from our experiment!

Our morning meeting got a face lift this week with a few new greetings and activities! 🌤

"Selfie Salutation Greeting"

"Snowball Greeting"

"Secret Handshake Greeting"

We continued to grow our mindsets this week by reading the story, Beautiful Oops! Ask your child what this book was all about and how they can turn their mistakes into something beautiful! 😊

Thank you Mrs. Furlong for being a Mystery Reader in our classroom last week! 📗

Biff has been having a blast making his home visits! We can't wait to hear about all the fun that he had this weekend! 🐕

🌟Star Student🌟

Congratulations to this week's Star Student, Nora! We loved learning more about Nora from her All About Me poster and from the pictures and objects that she brought in from home! Keep up the awesome work Norah! You are such an important and valued member of our Room 118 family! ❤
