It was so nice to see and meet everyone last Wednesday night at Open House! The children have been working SO hard, and they were very excited to show you just what they have been up to! Thank you so much for visiting our classroom! I hope you had as much fun as I did! 😊

Math ✏

In math this week we will continue to review addition strategies and will also continue the math fact component of our math curriculum! Students have been completing various activities and playing games to practice their math facts in families! This week we will finish learning about the 5's family and will begin the 6's family!

Soon we are going to start our Guided Math centers! Guided Math is an approach that provides all instruction in small groups. When students are not working with a teacher to learn new skills or concepts, they are participating in math games that will build their fact fluency, completing projects that target key math concepts, and using the computer to practice skills learned in class! Guided Math is such a fun part of our day and allows me the opportunity to support and challenge students at their individual level. I am so excited to start Guided Math centers soon and hope that your child will enjoy them as much as I do! 👍

Math game fun! 🎲

On Monday we took our very first trip to the Media Center! We had so much fun seeing our Media Specialist Mrs. Moses and picking out two books to take home! Students are asked to return or renew their media books by Monday so that they can select two new books to take out! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions! Happy Reading! 📚

Using a checklist in Writer's Workshop to improve our pieces! ✏

This week our read alouds focused around manners! Ask your child to give you a few examples of manners in public, in the library and at school to see what they have learned so far! 

Getting our Fundations boards ready for Unit 2! Glued sounds here we come! 

This week we started our science unit on water! In our very first experiment we answered the question, If you floated down a river where would you end up? Ask your child the answer to this question to see what they have learned! 🌊

Playing the Yarn Game in Morning Meeting! 🧶

On Friday we read The Dot by Peter Reynolds and participated in a story walk of the book! Thank you to our Media Specialist Mrs. Moses for bringing this wonderful experience to Boyden School! 📘
