September 29, 2019

It's hard to believe that Tuesday is October already! Time sure is flying! The children have done a fabulous job over the last month settling into second grade procedures and expectations! I couldn't be more proud of the effort and enthusiasm that they put forth each day! I look forward to another wonderful week of learning fun in Room 118! 😊 #bestyearever!

There's nothing like a GoNoodle to get us energized on a Monday morning! 😄

Math
In math this week we will continue to review addition strategies and will also continue the math fact component of our math curriculum! Students have been completing various activities and playing games to practice their math facts in families! This week we will finish learning about the 5's family and will begin the 6's family!

Soon we are going to start our Guided Math centers! Guided Math is an approach that provides all instruction in small groups. When students are not working with a teacher to learn new skills or concepts, they are participating in math games that will build their fact fluency, completing projects that target key math concepts, and using the computer to practice skills learned in class! Guided Math is such a fun part of our day and allows me the opportunity to support and challenge students at their individual level. I am so excited to start Guided Math centers soon and hope that your child will enjoy them as much as I do! 👍

Math Game Fun! 🎲

Math fact family bracelets!

Practicing adding 3 numbers with our Spaghetti Sums project! 🍝

This week we started using a wonderful online resource called XtraMath to practice our math facts! Information about this program will be coming home with you child tomorrow! This is a great tool to help your child develop math fact fluency and can be used at home! 👍

Thank you to our Technology Specialist, Mrs. Carroll, who helped us use BeeBots during our Innovation Lab time on Tuesday! Ask your child about BeeBots to learn more about this awesome resource!

This week in science we answered the question, "Why is there sand at the beach?" Ask your child the answer to this question to see what they learned! 🌊🏖

Happy Birthday, Mia! 🎂
