October 13, 2019

Happy Sunday! I hope that everyone is having a great long weekend! We have another busy week ahead in Room 118 with our field trip to Decordova Sculpture Park on Friday! I can't wait for another spectacular week in second grade! 😃

Picture Day ready! 📸

Our Field Trip! 🚌
Our field trip to Decordova Sculpture Park is this Friday! I'm crossing my fingers that we will have a beautiful fall day! On Tuesday your child will come home with a letter that provides a bit more information about the trip! Please let me know if you have any questions!

We started our Guided Math centers this week! The children did a fantastic job! 👍

Parent/Teacher Conferences 📆
It's hard to believe that Parent/Teacher conferences are just around the corner! The online conference scheduler opened last week and will be active until the end of this week! If you are unable to make any of the time slots still available, please contact me as soon as possible! I'd be more than happy to meet during a time that is convenient for you! I look forward to conferencing with you soon! 😃

In Reader's Workshop we are exploring Nonfiction texts! Ask your child what types of Nonfiction books they like to read during this very important time of our day! 📚

We are learning so much from our Scholastic News articles! 📰

Media 📚
A friendly reminder that our media day is Monday! Second graders are allowed to take out two library books as long as they are returned each week by Monday morning! Happy Reading! 🙂

Writer's Workshop
Last week we finished our first unit in our Writer's Workshop curriculum and celebrated all of our hard work with a writing party! The children were able to share a published piece of writing with the class and took a gallery walk to admire the hard work of their friends! Keep up the great work writers!

On Friday we wrote letters to children's author Jane Yolen! We used many of Jane's books as mentor texts during our first Writer's Workshop unit!

Our read alouds this week and our visit from Mrs. Tilton focused on kindness! ❤

Math center fun!

Playing a new game called, "Pass the Rainbow Chicken" during morning meeting! 🌞

We continued to learn about erosion this week in science! Ask your child how a landslide can be prevented to see what they learned! ⛰

On Fridays we wear green! 👍

🌟Star Student🌟

Congratulations to our very first Star Student of the school year, Jarai! We loved learning more about Jarai from her All About Me poster and from the pictures that she brought from home! Keep up the awesome work Jarai! You are such an important and valued member of our Room 118 family!
