November 20, 2021

Room 118 continued to learn, grow and have fun this week! We explored place value in math, added to our understanding of animals in science, wrote up a storm in Writer's Workshop and reached new heights of reading stamina in Reader's Workshop! While our week coming up is short, there is no doubt that we will make every minute count!

Our understanding of place value is growing everyday in Math Workshop! We are really enjoying working in groups to learn and practice math!

Science
This week we participated in a science investigation where we answered the question, "Why would a wild animal visit a playground?" In this lesson, students solved the mystery of why a group of wild bighorn sheep would leave their usual desert habitat to visit a second, very different habitat: a local playground. In the activity, Habitat Scavenger Hunt, students recorded observations of the diversity of life found in the desert and the playground, as well as the physical characteristics of each location. Students combined these observations to create an understanding of how the living and non-living parts of a habitat support the animals that live there.

Playing Bingo in FUNdations to practice our skills!

On Wednesday we had a virtual lesson with math guru Greg Tang! Mr. Tang taught us great strategies to solve lots of different types of math problems! Ask your child about this experience to see what they learned!

We were so fortunate to have our Literacy Coach, Mrs. Findley, come into our classroom on Thursday and helps us take our reading groups to the next level! Thank you for your time and for sharing your expertise Mrs. Findley! πŸ“š

FUNdations + shaving cream = one exciting Friday morning in Room 118!

Applying all that we are learning about reading nonfiction to a Scholastic News article!

We had so much fun on Friday participating in fun stations during Media! Each station had a different tool that we could use to show what we are thankful for!

We love finding a cozy spot in the Media Center to enjoy books!
