It was a fabulous four day week in Room 114! We continue to learn, grow and have so much fun each and every day! I hope your week was just as amazing and you are having a great weekend! 😃

In math this week we continued to work on measuring objects with nonstandard units! Ask your child what they measured in our classroom! 

Room 114 writers are on a roll! I am beyond proud and impressed with the effort, enthusiasm and creativity so many writers are putting into their small moment stories! By now, students should have three or four pieces in their writing folders! Ask your child how many stories they have written so far to see how their writing stamina is developing! 👍

We love participating in GoNoodle activities, especially when we have a few days of indoor recess in a row! Ask your child about their favorite GoNoodle video to see what they are enjoying!

This week our read alouds continued to focus on kindness, friendship and being a good classmate! ❤

🌟Star Student🌟

Congratulations to Lainey who was our very first Star Student of the school year! We loved learning more about Lainey from her All About Me poster and from the pictures that she brought from home! Keep up the awesome work Lainey! You are such an important and valued member of our Room 114 family! ❤

Every child will have the opportunity to be a Star Student in our classroom this year! It is such a wonderful way to celebrate and honor each child! Star Students are selected at random every Friday afternoon. When it's your child's turn to be a Star Student they will come home on Friday afternoon with their letter of congratulations and a description of what their reign of Star Student will entail! Keep shining bright Stars of Room 114! ⭐

FUNdations

This week in FUNdations we will continue to explore the concepts presented in Unit 2, which focus on the phonemic awareness skill of sound manipulation. We will continue to practice blending, segmenting, reading and spelling three-sound short vowel words.

Reader's Workshop 📚

This week in Reader's Workshop we will talk about how reading partners can introduce their books to each other! We will also learn that reading partners don't tell, they help and that partners can do something at the end of a book, too!

Writer's Workshop 🖊

This week in Writer's Workshop we will start to study other writer's craft by studying a story to learn ways the author makes it special, trying out a craft move from a mentor text: writing with exact actions and writing with pop out words.

Math 🖩

This week we will continue to work through unit 1 in our math program. In this unit your child will: ❚ Quickly recognize how many objects are in a collection (up to 10), without counting from 1 ❚ Identify 1 more and 1 less than a given number ❚ Explore number combinations that add up to 5 and 10 ❚ Count by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s ❚ Make and read simple graphs using pictures and tally marks
