This past week in Room 114 we started a penguin themed measurement project in math, continued to practice reading and spelling words with consonant blends in FUNdations, talked about being a good friend in our SEL lesson with Mrs. Tilton and started to learn about star constellations in science! I look forward to the week ahead as we celebrate the 100th day of school on Monday, continue to honor Black History Month in Social Studies and grow in our math, reading and writing learning! π
With the help of Mrs. Carroll, we explored a new online math tool this week called Thinking Blocks! This online game centers around math problem solving! While it is a bit challenging, the children did an amazing job of problem solving and persevering! Do you want your child to try this tool at home to extend their math skills? Please reach out and I can provide you with the website! π»
During our SEL lesson with Mrs. Tilton this week we talked about what it means to be kind and to be a good friend! Ask your child to see their Rainbow Fish paper to learn more! π
We continued to talk about Growth Mindset through our read alouds this week! Ask your child about the books, "The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes" and "Giraffes Can't Dance" to see what they are learning! π§
On Wednesday we made predictions about whether the groundhog would see his shadow on Thursday! We crossed our fingers and hoped our guesses would be accurate! π€
This week in math we started a fun penguin themed project! The first part of the project had us measure ourselves to buy pretend snowsuits so that we could travel to Antarctica and observe penguins in their natural habitat! Ask your child how we measured ourselves to learn more! π§
Groundhog Day 2023!
On Friday Room 114 was thrilled to welcome a few fourth graders into our classroom! During their visit they helped support us on our ST Math journeys! We were so excited to be able to work with these "big kids" and look forward to our continued collaboration with them!
On Friday all students enjoyed Young Audiences’ Become Your Dreams: History of Hip Hop Dance, a performance by the Hip Hop dance company Illstyle and Peace. Become Your Dreams celebrates the art and movement of hip hop and includes a funky blend of locking, breaking, popping, tap and house dancing, vocal percussion, D.J.ing, and modern and traditional dance forms. An emphasis is placed on the similarity of some hip-hop moves to those found in ballet, modern, and traditional dance forms. Ask your children about it!
