Happy Monday! I hope that everyone is having a great long weekend! I can't wait for another fantastic week in first grade! I know that we will have four fabulous days together!๐
In Reader's Workshop last week we learned that reading with a partner can be very helpful! We loved reading with a classmate to build our reading stamina! ๐
The children have been SO excited to share their hard work in Writer's Workshop with their classmates! We are learning so much from each other! Way to go writers! ✏
Last week we continued to explore measurement in math with nonstandard units! We had a blast measuring different objects with snap cubes!
We continue to build a strong school family during our daily morning meetings! The Yarn Greeting Game has quickly become a fan favorite in Room 114! ๐งถ
We LOVED using the TouchView on Thursday morning to "sign in"!
We also used the TouchView during Morning Meeting to greet each other! ๐
Practicing FUNdations skills has never been so much fun!
Last week we started using the online phonics website, Lalilo to build and practice our skills! The children are LOVING this tool already! ๐ป
During our SEL lesson last week with Mrs. Audet, we talked about different feelings that we can have in different situations! We also practice our breathing skills!

Reader's Workshop ๐
This week in Reader's Workshop we will talk about how readers use good habits before, during and after reading by checking for meaning.
Writer's Workshop ๐
Our first unit in Writer's Workshop is Personal Narratives, which we also refer to as “Small Moment Stories”. These are stories your child will write about their own life, zooming in on a small moment in time. By focusing on a small moment in time, writers can add details to make that moment come to life with words. For example:
Big Topic: Riding my bike Small Moment: 1st time I rode without training wheels
Big Topic: My dogs Small Moment: The time when my dogs escaped through the
fence gate
Big Topic: Summer Small Moment: Collecting seashells at the beach with Grandma
Did you share any special times over the summer? Does your family have any special traditions? Has your family visited a special place or taken a trip? These memories are the seeds your child can use to “grow” a story.

Jill ๐
