November 8, 2015

I hope that everyone is having a fantastic weekend! Boy were we busy last week in Room 118! On Monday we had a visit from Mrs. Harris, a teacher at the Discovery Museum! She came into our classroom and taught us all about magnets! We had so much fun exploring and experimenting with all of her awesome magnet tools! On Friday, we finally got to start making our volcanoes! The students voted on making volcanoes as their celebration for filling our bead jar! We had a messy, but very fun time! I look forward to another exciting week in Room 118!

Literacy
In Literacy this week we will be reading the story, Turtle’s Race with Beaver by Joseph Bruchac and James Bruchac. Through reading this story we will continue to discuss the unit question, “How can we work together?” We will also discuss the weekly question, “When does sharing make sense?” This week we will be reviewing the genre of Folk Tale, reading and writing words that have er, ir, ur, practicing the skill of sequencing and applying the comprehension strategy of summarizing.

Math
In math we will start topic 5 in our math program, which focuses on place value to 100. This week we will be producing models for tens and ones, reading and writing numbers to 100, using symbols to compare numbers and counting to 100.

Social Studies
Last week in Social Studies we learned all about the very important holiday of Veteran’s Day. Students had many great stories to share about the veterans in their lives and were asked to thank a veteran for their contributions and service to our country!

Star Student
Congratulations to Charlie who was our Star Student last week! We loved learning more about Charlie though his All About Me poster and from the pictures that he brought in from home! Keep up the amazing work Charlie! :)
