December 5, 2015

I hope that everyone enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving! I look forward to a fabulous week of learning fun in Room 118! :)

Thank You Ms Storlazzi!
This will be Ms. Storlazzi's last week with us as an Instructional Assistant in our classroom. We can't thank her enough for all that she has done for our classroom over the last few months of school! She will be dearly missed! We wish her well and the best of luck in her new endeavors! Thank you so much Ms. Storlazzi!!!

This week we decorated holiday cards for the annual Dedham Savings Bank Holiday Card Contest! :)

Inclusive Schools Week
This week Boyden School will be participating in Inclusive Schools Week, an annual event that highlights and celebrates our many individual differences. To honor this special week our class will be creating a word web, designing our own puzzle pieces to represent our individuality and making posters to explain when we feel included. Mr. Dearborn will also be coming to our classroom to read a special story to us! Throughout the week ask your child to tell you why including others is so important!

Gifts for Kids
Before the Thanksgiving break, your child came home with information about donating to the Gift for Kids program! If you are interested in having your child pick an ornament from the tree kindly send a note in with your child or send me an email so that I know that they have your permission to do so! Thank you so much!

Literacy
In Literacy we will be starting our third unit of stories which focus around the essential question, “What does it mean to be creative?” This week we will be reading the story, Pearl and Wagner: Two Good Friends by Kate McMullan. Through reading this story we will be discussing the weekly question, “How do inventors turn ideas into inventions?” We will also be discussing the genre of Animal Fantasy, applying the long e sound to letters e, ee, ea and y while reading, identifying author’s purpose and determining the story structure of a text.

Math
This week in math we will begin Topic 7 which focuses on mental subtraction strategies. We will be learning how to subtract tens, find parts of 100, subtract on a hundred chart and subtract multiples of 10.

Star Student
Congratulations to Daryl who was our Star Student last week! We loved learning more about Daryl from his All About Me poster! Keep up the amazing work Daryl! :)
