I hope that everyone is having a fabulous weekend and enjoying this gorgeous weather! I am so excited to see what February has in store for Room 118! Such a busy and exciting month it will be! :)

Parent/Teacher Conferences
This year "spring" Parent/Teacher conferences are a little bit different! We have two conference sessions, Wednesday, February 10th from 6PM-8PM and Friday, February 12th from 1:00PM-3:00PM! The online conference scheduler opened last week! If you are interested in having a conference with me to discuss your child's progress, please check the conference scheduler for open times! If the days and times available do not work for you please let me know and I'd be more than happy to meet with you during a more convenient time or set up a phone conference! Thank you so much! I look forward to meeting with you soon! :)

Student/Teacher Conferences
Starting this week I will be having Student/Teacher conferences in school! During this time I will be chatting with each student to talk about the wonderful things they have been doing in school and the great progress they have made! I will also be using this time to talk to students about any areas that I will continue to support them in. The days in Room 118 go by so incredibly fast that I'm hoping Student/Teacher conferences will give me the opportunity to check in with each student! After meeting with your child, they will be coming home with a letter from me that summarizes what I shared with them during our conference! Please ask your child to see their letter and contact me with any questions that you have! Thank you so much! :)

Valentine’s Day!
It’s hard to believe that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! This week I will be sending home a class list for students to address their Valentines! If students choose to hand out Valentines please make sure they have one for each classmate. We don’t want any broken hearts! Also, it is school policy that food/candy is not exchanged at any time, so unfortunately any Valentine’s candy brought to school will not be able to be given out. Please feel free to contact me with any questions! Thank you! Happy Valentine’s Day!

Literacy
In literacy we will be starting our fourth unit of stories! This week we will be reading, The Quilt Story by Tony Johnson and Tomie dePaola. We will begin to discuss the unit questions, “How do things change? How do they stay the same?” We will also discuss our weekly question, “How can familiar things help us with changes?” This week we will also be reviewing the genre of realistic fiction, reading and spelling words with syllables C + le, applying the vocabulary strategy of word structure, reviewing the comprehension skill of cause and effect and identifying story structure.

Verb Art!

Math
The students have been working SO hard in math to apply the Partial Differences strategy to solve two-digit subtraction problems with and without regrouping! This can be a tricky math skill so we will continue to practice and apply this strategy this week! Thank you SO much for all of your help and support in encouraging your child to use the Partial Differences approach! I know it can seem a little confusing at first but I can already see an incredible difference in the students' conceptual understanding of subtraction with the use of this strategy! Thank you so much!

Social Studies
Last week in Social Studies we continued to learn about the 7 continents and 5 major oceans of the world! We identified all of the continents and oceans on a world map and learned about a river and mountain range on each land form! This week we will wrap up our unit on continents and oceans and will be taking our very first social studies quiz to see what students have learned! Be on the lookout for more information about this coming home soon!

Star Student!
Congratulations to Sean who was our Star Student last week! We loved learning more about Sean from his All About Me poster and from the pictures that he brought from home! Keep up the amazing work Sean! :)
