Parent/Teacher Conferences
I look forward to meeting with you this week during Parent/Teacher conferences to discuss your child's progress! If you have not yet made an appointment but are interested in meeting with me please do not hesitate to contact me! I'd be more than happy to set up a conference time that is convenient for both of us! Thank you so much! :)
We had so much fun making Groundhog's Day predictions last week in computer lab! :)
Room 118 will be celebrating Valentine's Day this Friday with a Valentine's card exchange! If students choose to hand out Valentines please make sure they have one for each classmate. We don’t want any broken hearts! Also, it is school policy that food/candy is not exchanged at any time, so unfortunately any Valentine’s candy brought to school will not be able to be given out. Please feel free to contact me with any questions! Thank you! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Literacy
This week in Literacy we will be reading the text, Life Cycle of a Pumpkin by Ron Fridell and Patricia Walsh. Through reading this story we will continue to discuss the unit questions, "How do things change? How do they stay the same?"We will also discuss the weekly question, "How do plants change as they grow?" This week we will also review the genre of Expository Nonfiction, learn about the vowels oo and u, apply the vocabulary strategy of context clues, integrate the comprehension skill of fact and opinion and apply the comprehension strategy of asking questions while reading!
Social Studies
This week we will wrap up our unit on the 7 continents! Students will be coming home with materials that they can use to practice all that we have learned in anticipation of our very first Social Studies quiz which we will take after February Vacation! Keep up the amazing work!
Math
This week in math we will finish Topic 9, which has focused on double-digit subtraction! This can be a very tricky skill! The children have amazed me with their perseverance, effort and enthusiasm! After vacation we will begin our next topic which is all about place value to 1,000!
