February 21, 2016

I hope everyone enjoyed a safe and relaxing February Vacation! It’s hard to believe March is almost here! I look forward to another month of learning fun in Room 118!

Parent/Teacher Conferences
It was so nice to meet with you during Parent/Teacher conferences! While official conference time is over, please never hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your child! Thank you so much for your continued support! :)

Student/Teacher Conferences
This week I am hoping to finish up Student/Teacher conferences in school! While I was not able to meet with every child before vacation, each student did receive a letter from me before vacation. If you haven't seen your child's letter yet please ask them to take a peek! Your child's letter is a great summary of their successes in second grade and any areas in need of further development! Please let me know if you have any questions! Thank you so much! :)

Valentine's Day fun in Room 118!

Jump-a-Thon
Congratulations to Audrey and Conor who were our class representatives in the Jump-a-Thon! Both gave 100% effort and did a fantastic job! Great work Audrey and Conor! Room 118 is so proud of you!

Literacy
This week in Literacy we will be reading the text, Life Cycle of a Pumpkin by Ron Fridell and Patricia Walsh. Through reading this story we will continue to discuss the unit questions, “How do things change? How do they stay the same?” We will also discuss the weekly question, “How do plants change as they grow?” This week we will also review the genre of Expository Nonfiction, learn about the vowels oo, u, apply the vocabulary strategy of context clues, integrate the comprehension skill of fact and opinion and apply the comprehension strategy of asking questions while reading.

Cheering on the jumpers during Boyden's annual Jump-a-Thon!

Math
In math we will begin our tenth unit of study which focuses on place value to 1,000! This week we will take a pretest to see what the children already know about this topic, count by hundreds to 1,000, use place value models to show numbers up to 1,000, read and write numbers to 1,000 and change numbers by hundreds and tens!

We had so much fun celebrating the 100th Day of school before vacation!
