Celebrating Pajama Day on Friday!
Progress Reports
This Thursday, March 31st your child will be coming home with their
term 2 progress report. What a wonderful opportunity to sit
down with your child and celebrate all that they have accomplished
over the last several months in school! This tool should be used to
encourage and commend your child as well as provide information on
areas that may still need a little work. It is important to remember
that this progress report shows how a student is progressing towards
meeting our end of the year benchmarks. Receiving a score of 2 is
still completely appropriate as there are some areas that we have not
yet covered in our curriculum. It is our goal to have students earning
a score of 3 on the last, term 3 report card. After reviewing your
child’s progress report with them, please sign the progress report
envelope and return to school as soon as possible! As always I am incredibly proud of all the hard work
and great progress each student has made in second grade! There are so many reasons to celebrate!
Keep up the fantastic job!!!
Science
Last week we began our science unit on plants! We dissected a seed to learn about its parts and discussed the important role that leaves play in the growth of a plant! We also planted our own seeds and are hoping to be able to observe the life cycle of a plant firsthand!
Literacy
In Literacy we will be starting our fifth unit of stories which will focus around the essential question,
“What does it mean to be responsible?” This week we will be reading the piece, Firefighters! by Angela
Royston. Through reading this story we will discuss the weekly question, “Why is it important to do a
good job?” We will also review the genre of Narrative Nonfiction, learn about suffixes –ly, -ful, -er, -or,
and apply the comprehension skill of identifying the main idea and supporting details of a text.
Last week we started biography projects in school! The children did a fantastic job of using a text to
research a very important person from history! Ask your child to tell you who they are researching in
school and what fun facts they have learned from their biographies!
Math
This week in math we will continue to explore strategies for adding and subtracting three digit numbers!
Mystery Readers!
Thank you so much to Mrs. Connolly and Mrs. Gondelman for being Mystery Readers in our classroom this week! We had so much fun! :)
Congratulations to Lauren who was our Star Student last week! We loved learning more about Lauren from her All About Me poster and from the pictures that she brought from home! Keep up the amazing work Lauren! :)
