A few friends finishing their "Wolf Writing"! Be on the lookout for this description of a story critical character coming home soon! :)
Biography Reports & Homework
Tomorrow your child will be coming home with information about our biography reports! The children have been so excited and enthusiastic about this very special project! This assignment uses many of the same resources that students used in the classroom to complete their first biography projects but allows students to pick a person from history that they would like to research! Most students were able to find a book in school to use for this project but a few children were interested in people we did not have books for. Those students are more than welcome to complete their research using the computer or other outside resources! If your child selected a person that we do not have a book for and you would like them to pick a person we do have books for please let me know! Please do not hesitate to contact me if your child is having a difficult time completing this assignment or if you have any questions! To give the children a bit more time to work on this project I will not be sending home a homework packet this week. Thank you so much for your continued support and assistance! I can’t wait to see the final products on May 9th!
Math
In math we will continue to explore topic 12 in our math curriculum which focuses on geometry! This week we will be relating plane shapes to solid figures, identifying polygons and angles, combing shapes to make new shapes and cutting shapes apart to make new shapes!
Literacy
This week in literacy we will be reading the story, Horace and Morris but mostly Dolores by James Howe. Through reading this story we will continue to discuss the unit question, “What does it mean to be responsible?” We will also discuss the weekly question, “What do good friends and neighbors do?” This week we will also be reviewing the genre of Fantasy, learning about the sounds of ph and gh, applying the comprehension strategy of asking questions while reading and exploring the comprehension skill of author’s purpose.
Room 118 has a brand new bulletin board called, "Star Work"! It is my hope that this new display will help students to continue to put forth their very best effort during our time left together! Ask your child if their work is showing their best effort and making it onto our "Star Work" board!
Mystery Reader!
Thank you so much to Kylie's grandmother Ms. Johnson and to her aunt Michelle for being Mystery Readers in our classroom before vacation! We had so much fun! :)
