May 1, 2016

Happy May! I hope that everyone is having a great weekend! What a busy week we had last week in Room 118! The children did such a fabulous job jumping right back into our school routines after vacation! I look forward to another exciting week in second grade! :)

Enjoying a Docent presentation and playing art bingo!

Homework/Biography Projects
A gentle reminder that biography projects are due next Monday, May 9th! I'm so excited to see all of the wonderful research and spectacular projects that the students create! To give students time to work on their projects I will not be assigning a homework packet again this week. I know that this time of year is super busy with sports and activities so please do not hesitate to contact me if your child needs extra time to complete this assignment! Thank you so much! :)

Literacy
This week in Literacy we will be reading the story, The Signmaker’s Assistant by Tedd Arnold. Through reading this story we will continue to discuss the unit question, “What does it mean to be responsible?” We will also explore the weekly question, “What happens when we do the wrong thing?” This week we will also learn about the genre of Humorous Fiction, read and spell words with vowels aw, au, augh, and al, and review the comprehension skill of identifying realism and fantasy.

Math
In math this week we will finish our unit on geometry by using clues to solve riddles about plane shapes and solid figures! We will then begin our next topic of study which will focus on counting money! Throughout this chapter we will continue to work on applying our three-digit addition and subtraction strategies!
