It was another busy and fun week in Room 118! We took our official Team Kind picture, had a technology lesson from Mrs. Carroll and celebrated all of our hard work with a Pajama Day! Keep up the amazing work Room 118!
Meet the Team!
Science
Our science lesson this week was a case study in biodiversity using the frogs of North America. In the activity, Who's Calling?, students learned to identify frogs by their unique calls and investigated which of two locations has a greater variety of frogs. After listening to recordings of frog calls, students created words that will remind them of the sounds, and then used those words to identify frog sounds in different environments.
Lots of math learning and fun continues in Math Workshop!
This week we had a bus evacuation drill! Ask your child about the rules on the bus and what to do if there was an ever an emergency to see what they learned!
This week through our Scholastic News we learned strategies for when we have challenges on the playground!
This week we wrapped up our kindness read alouds!
Focusing on our classroom family during our Morning Meeting activity on Thursday!
Digital Learning π»
This week Mrs. Carroll, the Digital Learning Coach, came and spoke about how to be responsible online. We discussed the word "responsible" and learned that being responsible when online is like being responsible when we are not online. We used scenarios to practice identifying websites that are "just right" for us and "not right" for us. We used the Internet Traffic Light as a guide. Thank you Mrs. Carroll for this incredibly important lesson!

In math this week we continue to explore place value by learning to find patterns with numbers on hundred charts, skip counting by 5's, 10's and 100's to 1,000 and problem solving by looking for patterns.
Science/Social Studies π
This week in science we will answer the question, "How could we get more birds to visit a bird feeder?" In this lesson, students will investigate which kinds of birds are likely to visit a bird feeder based on what they eat. In the activity, Design a Bird Feeder, students will first draw their own bird feeder design to attract a specific type of bird. Then they will build a prototype of their bird feeder using available materials.
