 It's been a busy few weeks in Room 118! We had our very first Docent lesson, started a new unit in science on water and continued to practice adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers! I look forward to another fabulous week of learning fun! 😊

Valentine’s Day! ❤ 

Room 118 will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Monday, February 14th! If students choose to hand out Valentines, please make sure they have one for each classmate. We don’t want any broken hearts! Also, it is school policy that food/candy is not exchanged at any time, so unfortunately any Valentine’s candy brought to school will not be able to be given out. Please feel free to contact me with any questions! I will be sending a class list home with your child tomorrow if they would like to address cards to each student! Happy Valentine’s Day! 💕

Thank you to Mrs. Feeney, Mrs. Hollister and Mr. Royal for volunteering to be Docents for our classroom! We had a blast learning about Henri Matisse and creating Matisse inspired art of our very own! 🎨

Last week in Reader's Workshop we learned about how we can meet the challenges of longer books by working together in same book partnerships. The children did a fabulous job working together to hold on to stories even when books were long and staying on track when books get tricky. Way to go readers! 📚

This week in math we started our unit on measurement! Ask your child what nonstandard and standard units are to see what they have learned so far! 📏📏

On Wednesday we celebrated World Read Aloud Day with a Live read aloud of the book, "Bisa's Carnaval!" 📚

In science last week we started our unit on water! Our very first experiment was called "Paper Mountains" and helped us answer the question, "If you floated down a river where would you end up?" Ask your child to answer this question to see what they learned through our experiment! 🏔

FUNdations ✏

This week in FUNdations we will finish unit 9, which has focused on r-controlled vowels er, ir, and ur. 

Reader's Workshop 📚

We will continue to meet the challenges of longer books this week by using writing to solve reading problems, self-assessing and setting goals, and organizing ourselves into goal clubs.

 

Writer's Workshop 🖊

In Writer's Workshop this week we will continue to learn about poetry and apply the strategies that we are learning to our own poems!

Math 🖩

In math this week we will continue to explore, inches, feet, yards, centimeters and meters. We will also practice measuring length. 

Science/Social Studies 🌎

This week in science we will participate in an experiment that will help us to answer the question, "Why is there sand at the beach?"
