May 22, 2022

It's hard to believe that we are in the final stretch of our second grade journey together! I look forward to our last 18 school days together and to the wonderful memories that I know we will make!

Congratulations to Ms. Almeida who graduated from college with her undergraduate degree today! Ms. Almeida completed her student teaching experience in our classroom this past fall and the children still talk about her almost daily! She left such a big impression on all of us! We were honored that she asked us to design a very special dress for her big day! Congratulations Ms. Almeida! Room 118 is beyond proud of you!!! ❤

We were SO excited to help design a graduation dress for Ms. Almeida! πŸŽ“

This week in math we started our unit on Geometry! The students are doing such a great job identifying solid figures and naming the number of edges, vertices and faces on each! Way to go mathematicians!

We are putting the fun in FUNdations by adding games to our daily lessons! We have loved working together to practice and apply all that we are learning!

In science this week we created an experiment to see if plants could survive without light! We can't wait to see the result of our experiment once our radish seeds begin to grow!

Our chapter book series clubs are going strong in Reader's Workshop! Ask your child what series they are reading and what they have learned about the main character in that series see what we have been learning about!

This week in Reader's Workshop we started to learn about author's craft and the type of literary language author's use to bring their books to life! πŸ“š

This week in FUNdations we will start the 17th and final unit in our FUNdations program! In this unit we will learn about the consonant-le syllable (like in the words bubble or bicycle).

Reader's Workshop πŸ“š
In Reader's Workshop this week we will be learning about how authors think about how whole stories and how whole series will go. We will also discuss how authors bring stories to life and how they plan their story endings. Finally we will talk about how when readers love a series they can't keep it to themselves!

Writer's Workshop πŸ–Š
In Writer's Workshop this week we will continue to write letters about our favorite books. We will talk about how writers write about more than one part of a book. We will also discuss reading closely to generate more writing and how important it is to gather evidence to support each of our opinions.

Math πŸ–©
In math this week we will continue to learn about geometry! We will be cutting shapes apart, dividing rectangles into equal squares, talking about wholes and equal parts and will problem solve using reasoning.

Science/Social Studies πŸŒŽ
This week in science we will answer the question, "Where do plants grow best?"

Thank you so much for all of your

support and for everything that you do!

I look forward to connecting with you soon!

Warmly,

Jill 🍎
