September 11, 2022

What a wonderful 4 day week we had in Room 114! The children were so excited to jump into our first grade curriculum and did a fabulous job showing all that the learned in kindergarten! I can't wait for our first full, 5 day week together! πŸŽ‰

Happy Birthday to Dominic who celebrated his school birthday on Monday! 🎈

This week the children got to explore busy bins when they arrived in the morning! They did an amazing job of taking care of the busy bin materials!

This week our math lessons focused on popsicles! We had so much fun graphing our favorite popsicle flavors, collecting and analyzing data!

This week we read the book, "Our Class is a Family"! We then made self-portraits to display on a special poster in our classroom! #room114family

Exploring math manipulatives during math workshop!

Playing a new game in Morning Meeting called, "What's Changed?"

On Thursday we played a game/greeting activity called. "The Yarn Game." Ask your child what important lessons we can learn from playing this game!

Through our read alouds this week we talked about names and how our names make us special and unique!

"Party Animals of the Day" started using special seating this week! Ask your child what "Party Animals of the Day" are and what special things they get to do in our classroom!

Working hard in Writer's Workshop to show all that they learned in Kindergarten! Go Writers! ✏

Having fun in FUNdations!

Polydron fun!

As a class we brainstormed and decided on the promises (rules) that we will have for our classroom! Be on the lookout for a copy of our classroom promises coming home with your child this week!

Getting to know each other and working together through play!

When your math lessons for the week have a popsicle theme, you just HAVE to have a Popsicle Party with all your first grade friends on Friday afternoon! #firstgradeisfabulous!

FUNdations
FUNdations is the phonics program we teach daily in our classroom. This week we will continue to explore the concepts presented in Unit 1. In Unit 1 we will be setting the stage for all of the future units. We will be reviewing and teaching the letter names, keywords, sounds and lowercase letter formations of the letters a-z.

Reader's Workshop πŸ“š
This week in Reader's Workshop we will continue to talk about how readers take a sneak peek to get ready to read. We will also discuss how when readers finish a book they do something. This could mean stopping and remembering the book, looking back and thinking the book over, telling someone about the book or going back to favorite parts.

Writer's Workshop πŸ–Š
This week in Writer's Workshop we will discuss how lives are full of stories to tell. We will also plan for writing by learning that writers touch and tell across their writing pages, sketch, then write.

Math πŸ–©
In math this week we will use a number line to count forward and backwards by 5's and learn to group and count tally marks. We will also practice counting by 2's, make our own number racks, and learn a new game called, "Show Me".

Science/Social Studies 🌎
This week in science and social studies we will learn about who invented school. We will also continue to discuss what makes each of us special and unique through our daily read alouds!
