It was another busy and fun week in Room 114! In science we learned about why birds have beaks, in math we continued to play domino games to strengthen our number sense and in writing we had our very first Publication Party of the school year! I can't wait for another wonderful week of fantastic fun in first grade!
We continue to learn and play domino games in math to strengthen our number sense and to prepare us for addition concepts! 🁫
In science last week we participated in an experiment to help us answer the question, "Why do birds have beaks?" Through this experiment we discovered that birds have beaks to help them eat food. Different bird beaks are best for different kinds of food! 🐦
We continue to talk about kindness through our daily read alouds!
On Friday we had our very first writing celebration of the school year! The children LOVED getting on stage and sharing one of their favorite small moment pieces that they wrote to the class! Be on the lookout for your child's published piece and their collection of Small Moment Stories with feedback from me coming home soon! Way to go writers! Keep up the amazing work!

This week in FUNdations we will continue to explore the concepts presented in Unit 3, which focus on tapping, blending and writing words with digraphs ch, sh, th, wh and ck.
Reader's Workshop 📚
This week in Reader's Workshop we will begin our second unit of study called, "Word Detectives"! We will kick off this unit by learning that word detectives are always looking closely at words and using everything that they know to figure out tricky words!
Writer's Workshop 🖊
This week in Writer's Workshop we will start our unit on "How To" writing!
Math 🖩
This week in math we will continue to build our number sense by playing domino games and will learn about fact families!
