November 13, 2022

It was another busy and fun week in Room 114! We really dove into our units in Readers and Writer's Workshop, continued to grow our understandings of fractions and doubles facts in math and learned all about the important holiday of Veteran's Day in Social Studies! I look forward to the week ahead and can't wait to see what new learning we will do and what new fun we will have! 🙂

One of our Morning Meeting greetings this week was learning different ways to say hello in different languages! 

The clues keep coming in Reader's Workshop! We are learning and applying so many reading strategies in our unit on being word detectives!

We continue to learn about fractions in math as a part of our Number Corner! 

Many of our read alouds this week were once again provided by the children! I love their enthusiasm to share some of their favorite books with the class! 

On Thursday we learned about Veteran's Day and made thank you cards that we could give to a veteran that we know! 

It was an honor to learn more about Microtia on Wednesday as a part of National Microtia Day. Thank you to Charlie for sharing the amazing book, "Completely Me" with our class! We loved learning more about what makes Charlie special through this read aloud and through the other resources he shared with us. Keep shining bright, Charlie! You are such an important and valuable member of our Room 114 family!

FUNdations

This week in FUNdations we will continue to learn and practice the skills presented in our fourth unit of study, which focuses on spelling words with the bonus letters: ff, ll ss and zz. After receiving a short, daily mini lesson, students will be practicing the phonics concepts that are a just right fit for them through games and activities in a workshop model.

Reader's Workshop 📚

We will really dig into our unit "Word Detectives" this week! We will be discussing how word detectives use everything that they know to solve tricky words and they check their words slowly!

Writer's Workshop 🖊

This week in Writer's Workshop we will focus on "How To" writing and work hard to write a "How To" of our very own!

Math 🖩

This week in math we will continue to practice creating and writing addition and subtraction facts to create fact families. We will also learn effective, efficient strategies to solve addition and subtraction equations.
