It was so wonderful to have our Room 114 family back together after a week away! We wasted no time getting back into the swing of things and started new units in Writer's Workshop, FUNdations and Reader's Workshop! The children continue to work SO hard each and everyday! Keep up the fabulous job first graders! π
In Writer's Workshop we started our final unit last week, which focuses on writing Realistic Fiction stories! We learned about the structure of a Fiction story, which includes writing about a character, setting problem and solution. The children did an amazing job of applying the skills taught in our daily mini lessons to their own stories! ✏
We LOVE sharing our stories with the class at the end of every Writer's Workshop! We can learn so much from each other!
In science last week we wrapped up our unit on the Sun by answering the questions, "How can the Sun help you if you are lost?" and "Why do you have to go to bed early in the summer? Ask your child the answer to these questions to see what they learned! π€
In math this past week we worked hard to solve addition and subtraction story problems! The children worked SO hard!
In FUNdations we have started our 11th unit, which focuses on "magic e" words! Last week your child came home with a short story called, "Jake the Whale". Have your child read this story to you to see how they are doing with reading words that follow the "magic e" rule! π
We are having so much fun meeting characters and learning lessons through our books in Reader's Workshop!
